Expectations
It’s important to know just what’s expected of members once they’ve joined our Post. As a Veterans Service Organization (VSO) we’re focused not only on the needs of our immediate members, but on the needs of all veterans in surrounding communities, throughout the Pacific Northwest, and across the country. Whether a long-time or newly joined member, we feel strongly about keeping our members involved; here’s how.
We expect all members to participate on a consistent basis – to the best of their ability – in Post-related events including, but not limited to:

- Scheduled social hours and business meetings which are generally held the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm, or specially scheduled meetings, when required.
- Planned special events such as the Army/Navy football game and Founders Day gatherings.
- Any membership, fundraising, or recognition event such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day poppy distribution, Little League Opening Day color guard and Summer Celebration.
We also expect members to be active and consistent recruiters of potential new VFW members for our Post. Members should be aware of veterans in the community and open to the possibility of approaching and in some cases reengaging potential members about benefits, opportunities, and activities at VFW in general, our Post specifically.
And last but not least, we expect members to volunteer and assist with the management and maintenance of the Post by serving on special projects and committees as the need arises. Members participating on these projects and committees often times gain a great deal of experience in a wide array of VFW policy, finance, programmatic, and decision-making matters and are assisted by the historical perspectives and background information provided by our Post Trustees – three of our more senior members who are elected annually.
“A leader is a man who can adapt principles to circumstances." - George S. Patton
